On January 11, Hypixel Studios founder Simon Collins‑Laflamme shared a short clip on X of a 2D side‑scroller built inside Hytale by one of the studio’s level designers. Collins‑Laflamme pointed out that the creator was “not a programmer!” and that the build used the game’s creative tools.
The timing matters because Hytale is slated to enter early access on January 13, and the studio has been pushing the game as more than a block‑based survival title. The project grew out of the Hypixel community, and the game ships with a suite of creation features aimed at letting teams and solo creators design new modes and spaces. The clip suggests those tools are already flexible enough to produce a playable, side‑view experience without heavy coding.

The studio also posted a short video that demos placing objects in the world, which gives a sense of the level editing workflow and how quickly designers can assemble scenes.
Hytale has promised additional creative features beyond level editing, including a set of machinima tools for scripted scenes and camera control. A separate preview clip for those tools was posted by the team.
For players who like modding and community content, this clip is an early hint at the kinds of experiments fans might launch once the game is more widely available. Non‑programmers making small games, machinima, or themed community maps would expand what Hytale can host beyond the core adventure and survival modes. Fans who want to trace the game’s roots can also visit Hypixel, the server network that spawned much of the team behind Hytale.
