Remedy Entertainment has clarified details about the Performance Mode in their upcoming game, Alan Wake 2. While PS5 and Xbox Series X players can look forward to enhanced gameplay, those planning to play on Xbox Series S won’t have this option.
For those unfamiliar, Performance Mode is a game setting that lets players prioritize higher frame rates for smoother gameplay, often at the expense of other visual elements. For Alan Wake 2, this setting will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X, according to Remedy’s communications director, Thomas Puha.
Remedy Entertainment confirmed the absence of Performance Mode for the Xbox Series S in a response to Game Informer. Although exact details about frame rates and resolution are yet to be released, it’s clear that Xbox Series S owners won’t get the benefit of boosted performance.
PC gamers won’t have to worry about preset modes; they will be free to adjust settings as they wish. According to Thomas Puha, Alan Wake 2 was initially designed as a 30 FPS experience, focusing more on visual flair and atmosphere.
When asked whether the Performance Mode would result in a solid 60 FPS, Puha indicated that the team is still working on it. As the game is set to launch on October 27, more details will likely be shared closer to the release date.
I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game has been built from the beginning as a 30fps experience focusing on visuals and ambiance, but somehow we have managed to include a solid Performance mode. We’ll talk details later.
