Blizzard Entertainment‘s Overwatch 2 has been quite the talk since its launch on the Steam platform. Unfortunately, not all of that chatter has been positive. Currently facing a wave of negative feedback, with a shocking 91% of user reviews being unfavorable, the game has become the latest to be “review-bombed.”
This flood of negative reviews largely stems from the disappointment players feel over excluding the once-promised PvE Hero missions. These missions, announced in 2019, were a significant draw for many fans, and their cancellation left a bitter taste.
However, Blizzard isn’t shying away from the criticism. Director Aaron Keller tackled the issue head-on in a candid post on the official Overwatch blog. He acknowledged, “Many of the reviews on Steam mention the cancellation of the much larger component of PvE that was announced in 2019 as one of their primary reasons for dissatisfaction with the game. I get that. That announcement was about an ambitious project that we ultimately couldn’t deliver.” Despite the negative feedback, Keller remains hopeful, pointing to the game’s influx of new players on Steam and emphasizing the team’s commitment to continuous improvement.
Among the game’s highlights since its launch is the introduction of Illari, the new support hero, who players have positively received. Additionally, Story Missions, despite their formidable difficulty, have become a favorite among dedicated fans.
Keller is optimistic about Overwatch 2’s future, promising more heroes, maps, game modes, and events. “If we can’t turn back the clock, what can we do? We can keep adding to and improving Overwatch 2,” he stated. This commitment indicates that the team at Blizzard is geared up to transform this wave of criticism into a roadmap for progress.
Closing his statement with a nod to the uniqueness of Overwatch and a call to action for players, Keller said, “Jump in–there’s more to come!” With this rallying cry, it’s evident that Blizzard is ready to weather the storm and come out even stronger on the other side.
