Baldur’s Gate 3, one of this year’s most awaited releases, has made a spectacular debut on PC. According to the latest data from SteamDB, the game, masterfully crafted by Larian Studios, saw a staggering peak of 540,111 concurrent players on Steam, setting a record for the studio.
This outstanding performance dramatically surpasses the concurrent user record for Larian Studios’ previous game, Divinity: Original Sin 2, which sits at just over 93,000 players. It’s a clear demonstration of the immense anticipation and excitement that has been building up among gamers for this third installment of the iconic Baldur’s Gate series.
On the leaderboard of concurrent players on Steam, Baldur’s Gate 3 now claims the second spot, with only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive standing ahead. This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering the competition, with the game surpassing renowned titles such as Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Apex Legends, reinforcing the remarkable reception it has received among the global gaming community.
Baldur’s Gate 3 also demonstrated strong appeal on Twitch, a popular game streaming platform. According to Twitch Tracker, the game achieved a peak viewership of 479,179 on launch day, illustrating its broad appeal to players and global audiences keen on watching the compelling narrative unfold.
Currently, Baldur’s Gate 3 is available exclusively on PC. However, more gamers will soon be able to enter this epic world. Larian Studios has announced that a PlayStation 5 version is slated for release on September 6.
The developer has also expressed its plan to bring the game to Xbox Series X/S. Yet, owing to some technical challenges tied to implementing split-screen functionality, mainly due to the Xbox Series S’ less powerful hardware, the Xbox release could likely be deferred to 2024.
