Bohemia Interactive has announced the imminent arrival of the 1.22 update for DayZ, a popular survival video game. Players can sigh in relief as no wipe is scheduled for this update – a notable departure from previous patterns.
The developers shared an insight into the update through a highlight video recapping last week’s 1.22 Experimental Stream. Adam and Matěj, the faces of the video, took viewers on a virtual tour of the coast, showing off the experimental server for the 1.22 update, highlighting new backpacks, melee combat balancing, and launcher improvements.
The 1.22 update is now available on experimental branches on Steam and Xbox, which is a cause for excitement among the DayZ community. A primary feature of the update is adding a variety of new bags and backpacks, especially in the lower tiers. This comes as an effort to balance gameplay, considering it was relatively easy to procure a high-capacity pack early on in the game.
A significant balancing act on melee combat was executed in the update. After introducing the mace and sword in the previous update, developers noted difficulties balancing these weapons. They have adjusted the attacking and defensive aspects, differentiating between tools and actual weapons in their stats. The update also changes the protection provided by clothing items and the chances of bleeding during combat. Also, to the players’ relief, the ability to stun opponents with certain light items has been removed.
Under-the-hood changes are also part of this update, including modifications to data verification processes, hit registration, mouse cursor behavior, AI navigation, and player collisions. Bohemia encourages players to provide feedback on these changes through their feedback tracker.
