In a turn of events, Anna Megil, the narrative lead on the eagerly-awaited Fable reboot, announced via Twitter that she would be stepping away from her role at Playground Games in August.
Megil, who previously lent her narrative expertise to blockbuster titles like Guild Wars 2, Control and Dishonored, shared the news via Twitter. “I’ve had several wonderful years scribbling away in my fairytale cottage, but the time feels right for new challenges,” she said.
The departure from such a significant project was undoubtedly a tough decision. “Working on Fable was a dream come true for me, and it’s wrenching to leave it behind,” Megil admitted in her farewell tweet. However, she expressed her confidence in her colleagues, assuring fans the project would be left in capable hands.

Megil’s departure comes amidst a period of significant change at Playground Games. Earlier this year, Gavin Raeburn, co-founder of Playground, and several other key members left to establish Lighthouse Games, marking the second time this year that a group of former Playground staff have set up a new studio.
As the dust settles on these changes, all eyes are on the upcoming Fable reboot. After a long period of silence, a trailer for the reboot was finally unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase in June. Despite the challenges posed by Megil’s departure, the project seems to be holding steady. As one of the most popular franchises in Xbox’s lineup, expectations are high for this new iteration of Fable.
