Tencent’s subsidiary LightSpeed Studios, known for its role in mobile gaming with titles such as PUBG Mobile, has made a strategic move by acquiring Lucid Games, the developer behind Destruction AllStars. This acquisition signifies Tencent’s continued expansion and investment in the global video game market, strengthening its position as a dominant player in the industry.

Founded in 2011, Lucid Games has a track record of significant contributions to various renowned titles, including Apex Legends, Sea of Thieves, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. More recently, Lucid has been involved in developing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the anticipated title Nightingale.

Amidst the significant announcement of the acquisition, Lucid Games assured fans at large that they would retain full autonomy in the creative and operational aspects of the studio. This guarantee is standard in such acquisitions, as it allows the acquired entity to continue producing the unique and appealing content that initially marked them as an attractive acquisition.

We are thrilled that Lucid Games is now part of LightSpeed Studios family.

We'll continue to enjoy full independence in the games that we create and the operation of the studio, while having the support from LightSpeed Studios' global network and technology capabilities. pic.twitter.com/uLJW3vI3PI

Tencent’s role in this acquisition is noteworthy. As one of the world’s largest and most influential tech conglomerates, Tencent has steadily increased its global gaming industry footprint. Their gaming division has grown exponentially, with strategic investments in many major gaming companies.
