Bandai Namco has confirmed that the highly-anticipated Baten Kaitos 1 & 2 HD Remaster will arrive on Nintendo Switch on September 14, 2023. The game will first be released in Japan and Southeast Asia, with the European and North American release dates expected to be announced shortly.
This remastered collection comprises two landmark games, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins, originally launched on the Nintendo GameCube in 2003 and 2006. Both games, developed by Monolith Soft, are famed for their innovative card-based combat systems and immersive storytelling.
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean tells the tale of Kalas, a young man on a quest for vengeance after the death of his brother and grandfather. Players act as Kalas’s unseen guardian spirit, guiding him and his companions across an ethereal floating kingdom.
In Baten Kaitos Origins, players jump back 20 years before the first game’s events. This time, the story unfolds around Sagi, a spiriter connected with guardian spirits and a member of the Alfard Empire’s elite Dark Service. Accused and disgraced, Sagi embarks on a journey to clear his name and unveil the dark secrets of the empire.
The HD Remaster of these beloved games brings many new features designed to improve player experience. The addition of an Instant KO option, for example, allows players to dispatch enemies with a single attack, which, along with the ability to boost the game and battle speed up to 300%, dramatically hastens progression. Players focusing on the narrative rather than combat can also choose the No Encounters option to bypass random battles.
Get ready to indulge in nostalgia with this remastered collection of your beloved RPGs — Baten Kaitos Ⅰ & Ⅱ HD Remaster comes to you soon on the Nintendo Switch on 14 September 2023.
