In an exciting announcement, game developer Rare has revealed the next big crossover for its popular multiplayer pirate game, Sea of Thieves. The company is set to incorporate elements from the iconic Monkey Island franchise into its expansive oceanic world. Players can look forward to an original story, named Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island, scheduled to launch for free on July 20.
The anticipation is high after the release of the crossover trailer, which teases the arrival of familiar faces from the Monkey Island series. Audiences have been treated to glimpses of Melee Island, Guybrush Threepwood (the series protagonist), Elaine Marley, ghost pirate LeChuck, and even the hilariously spooky Murray, the Demonic Talking Skull.
The Monkey Island adventures will take place in the Sea of the Damned. This area is known for its otherworldly ambiance, which should complement the unique Monkey Island charm perfectly. The Legend of Monkey Island will encompass three Tall Tales, each taking players deeper into the story. All these narratives will be free of charge to Sea of Thieves players across various platforms, including PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
