In a recent earnings report, Embracer Group announced that Metro Exodus and Dead Island 2 reached significant sales milestones. The post-apocalyptic horror title Metro Exodus has sold over 8.5 million copies, while the zombie survival game Dead Island 2 has reached the 2 million mark.
Embracer Group’s report highlights that Metro Exodus, initially released in 2019, has been played by over 10 million people. The game also recorded impressive sales last quarter, with more than half a million units sold. This consistent performance shows the strength and resilience of the Metro series as a timeless intellectual property.
Dead Island 2, developed by Embracer Group’s internal studio Deep Silver Dambuster, debuted strongly after its release on April 21. The game surpassed 1 million units sold within its first weekend, eventually reaching over 2 million copies in just a month. This accomplishment makes Dead Island 2 the most successful launch regarding units sold and revenue generated in the history of Deep Silver and PLAION.
The robust sales of these games under the Embracer Group banner underscore the strength and diversity of its gaming portfolio. Furthermore, the company is looking to maintain this momentum with upcoming releases in Q1 FY 2023/24, which include games like AEW – Fight Forever and Jagged Alliance 3, published by THQ Nordic, and System Shock remake, published by PLAION.
Metro Exodus and Dead Island 2’s sales figures are a testament to the enduring appeal of immersive, story-rich games. The Embracer Group’s successful stewardship of these franchises suggests that we can expect more compelling narratives in future years.
