The announcement, made on Thursday, also included unveiling the debut trailer (embedded above), which revealed the release date as September 19, 2023.
The first look at Mortal Kombat 1 showed fans that the title retains the series’ brutal, visceral combat while ushering in a new era of innovation. According to the trailer’s description, the game is set in a “reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by Fire God Liu Kang.” With a fresh fighting system, new game modes, and a reimagining of the iconic Fatalities, Mortal Kombat 1 promises to redefine the franchise and offer a fresh experience for both long-time fans and newcomers.
Pre-orders for Mortal Kombat 1 open tomorrow, May 19 at 10:00am PT. To reward early adopters, pre-order customers will receive the sorcerer Shang Tsung as a playable character. PlayStation and Xbox players will also receive an additional perk: Beta access available in August, providing an early glimpse into the exciting world of the latest Mortal Kombat installment.
