Ubisoft has initiated a closed beta test for its upcoming free-to-play first-person shooter game, XDefiant. The beta test runs until April 23 and is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S and features cross-play capabilities. Players can register for a chance to participate in the closed beta here.
XDefiant allows players to choose from four factions inspired by popular Ubisoft franchises: The Cleaners (The Division), Echelon (Splinter Cell), Libertad (Far Cry 6), and Phantoms (Ghost Recon Phantoms). Each faction has three characters, one unlocked by default and the others unlocked through missions.
The closed beta offers 14 maps, 24 weapons, and 44 attachments. Although progression will not carry over to the full game, Ubisoft has confirmed that players can keep up to 10 exclusive cosmetic items when the game is released on PS4 and Xbox One.
Developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, XDefiant is led by executive producer Mark Rubin, the former executive producer at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward. The game was initially revealed in July 2021 as Tom Clancy’s XDefiant but dropped the Tom Clancy branding in March 2022, opting to include factions from other Ubisoft IPs.
Ubisoft has introduced a Twitch Drop program to celebrate the closed beta and its streaming debut, offering exclusive weapon skins and closed beta access through Twitch Drops. Players can earn these drops by watching partnered streamers for specific periods. The weapon skins will be carried over to the full game.
To qualify for Twitch Drops, players must link their Twitch account to their Ubisoft account. Ubisoft has partnered with numerous streamers to provide opportunities for players to earn these Twitch Drops. The list of streamers can be found in the official announcement.
