Rockstar Games has been keeping a tight lid on its highly anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), but according to a prominent insider known as Tez2, an official announcement is “a given this year.” In a post on the GTA Forums, Tez2, who has accurately leaked information about the game in the past, said that the game’s release date is “always-changing-not-set-in-stone,” but that the current deadline is holiday 2024.
However, Tez2 also noted that the release date had been pushed back multiple times in recent years and that it could slip into early 2025. To avoid further delays, Rockstar has reportedly been cutting content from the game to package into post-launch DLC. Tez2 believes that upper management is unlikely to delay the game further into 2025 or beyond and that an official announcement is likely to happen this year.
Tez2 also discussed the potential consequences of the “forced return to office” policy that many game companies, including Rockstar, are implementing amid the pandemic. While the return to the office could make Rockstar more firm about making an announcement, there is also the risk of losing talent if the policy is met with resistance, leading to further delays.
Although Rockstar has not made any official statements about GTA 6, leaks and rumors have suggested that the game may be set in a modern-day Vice City with two protagonists, one of whom is a woman. Unlike its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5, the game may receive single-player DLC.
Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series have been eagerly anticipating the release of GTA 6, which has sold over 345 million copies worldwide since its debut in 1997. While the release date remains uncertain, Tez2’s comments suggest that an official announcement is likely to happen this year, giving fans hope that they will finally get a glimpse of what’s in store for the next installment in the series.
