Minecraft Earth will shut down in June…

Mojang’s mobile game Minecraft Earth will shut down in June, with the main reason being the COVID-19 pandemic. For those unfamiliar, Minecraft Earth is a game similar to Pokemon GO, as it requires the player to go outside if they want to play the game. However, the pandemic has made this hard for a lot of people, which resulted in the loss of players for Minecraft Earth.

With today’s update, which is sadly the last one, Mojang will be:

  • Removing real-money transactions
  • Drastically reducing ruby costs
  • Including all completed, unreleased content currently in our pipeline
  • Reducing time requirements for crafting and smelting
  • Replacing unused crafting & smelting boosts with radius boosts of the same level
  • Granting a set of Character Creator items to players who sign in between January 5 and June 30

For those who have already made in-app purchases, you will get various Mojang-themed bonuses. Anyone who ever bought anything in Minecraft Earth will get a digital copy of Minecraft’s Bedrock version. The number of Rubies you have on Minecraft Earth will get turned in to Minecoins.

Minecraft Earth is currently available for Android and iOS devices worldwide. If you’ve always wanted to try the game out, these few months will be your only chance, as the service will end on June 30, 2021, with player data being deleted on July 1, 2021.
