Sony is in consideration of increasing the number of next-gen PlayStation 5 to 10 million units. The company’s plans are aiming to satisfy a surge in demand by doubling the production quantity. Sony’s mass production has first begun in June with an expectation of 5 million units produced until the end of September 2020.
This was recently announced by Bloomberg, which statement indicates a possible surge in demand caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Sony has announced that assembly partners and suppliers are increasing orders for the next-generation console. Shipping worldwide is a very time-consuming task, which is mandatory for the hardware to meet the store shelves.
The Holiday shopping season is the main target for Sony Entertainment, and all that next-gen piece of hardware has to be on the shelves during the period. It is not weird at all for the PS5 to see an enormous increase in sales due to the Covid-19. This piece of hardware is the perfect source of entertainment and will remain as such in the future. Hence, the reason to bolster its production value is reasonable.
