Assassin’s Creed 1 Remake Isn’t in Active Development, Ubisoft Says

Ubisoft says a major Codename Hexe update is planned for 2027, while private playtest feedback is pushing Codename Invictus closer to the series' core pillars.

Ubisoft has no other Assassin’s Creed remake in active development, leaving a remake of the original game outside its current plans for the franchise’s 20th anniversary in November 2027. Franchise head of content Jean Guesdon shared the update in his Fall 2026 overview of the series.

Ubisoft is preparing reveals, updates, rewards, and community events for the anniversary year. Guesdon said the teams are working on new chapters, including unannounced projects with new settings and stories. The publisher will keep looking for opportunities to bring older games back, so future remakes remain possible even though none is in active development now.

Ubisoft also described what it learned from Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the franchise’s first remake. Rebuilding old systems from scratch, adding elements that fit, and balancing legacy with new ideas took considerable work. The company said it was proud of what the team delivered and how the game was received.

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe is making steady progress, though work remains ahead. Ubisoft describes it as a darker Assassin’s Creed experience and plans to share the project’s next major update in 2027.

Codename Invictus remains in development, with its team adjusting the game’s direction to better reflect core Assassin’s Creed elements while keeping its multiplayer focus. A few months ago, hundreds of players joined the project’s first private Insiders Session, tried an early prototype, and shared feedback directly with the development team. Playtesters responded very positively to the PvP but asked for more of the series’ core pillars throughout gameplay. Ubisoft is testing new iterations to address that feedback and says online information may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate while development continues. The Fall 2026 update gives no date for public access, and Invictus remains a long way from release.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced had sold more than 3.5 million copies by its second week. Ubisoft Singapore recently added New Game+ and Nightmare difficulty, and plans several quality-of-life updates over the next few months. No further major content is planned for the game.
