Valve has confirmed it no longer makes the Index VR headset, and remaining units are on sale for $399.20, down $99.80 from the headset’s $499 launch price. The Valve Index store page lists the headset alone, with availability limited to existing stock.
The recently launched Steam Frame has taken the Index’s place in Valve’s headset lineup, leaving the older device as a tethered PC VR option. Buyers who want the full kit will have to look elsewhere: Valve’s former $999 package with controllers and a base station is no longer available, and the current discount applies only to the headset.
Valve lists a replacement left controller for $119.20 and replacement tethers for $103.20. There is no right-controller replacement or base station listed, so completing a setup means sourcing those pieces elsewhere.
Production has ended, and Valve has not said how many Index units remain. The store’s sale applies only as long as that stock is available.
