War Thunder Adds 10 Halloween-Themed Decals for October

The event runs through November 12 at 09:00 GMT, and every task requires a Rank III or higher vehicle.

War Thunder’s October Monthly Decals mix skulls, a ghost and a black cat with military markings inspired by real units. The 10 rewards are available from October 12 at 11:00 GMT through November 12 at 09:00 GMT, and all tasks require a Rank III or higher vehicle, according to Gaijin’s October Steam announcement.

Two designs draw on World War I aircraft art, though Gaijin notes they cannot be placed historically. The returning “Tiefseefisch” emblem is also easier to earn this time: it was previously available only for Golden Eagles, but now has a regular task. The monthly rotation follows September’s 10-task decal event.

Aircraft emblems span World War I to the Cold War

Personal Marking of Kazimir Rudzit, Soviet Russia: Defeat 50 players using Soviet Aircraft. Rudzit flew 23 combat and reconnaissance missions on the Southern Front in 1919 with the 15th Reconnaissance Aviation Detachment. His Nieuport 24bis carried an intricate image of Death riding a scythe, with a red ribbon and dragonflies.

SPA 91 Emblem, France: Earn 15,000 score using French Aircraft. Formed in 1917 from two Nieuport detachments, the unit recorded six confirmed victories before it disbanded in 1919. Its bird insignia passed to later French squadrons, though the exact species remains uncertain.

Black Cat Squadron Emblem (Type 1), China: Play 20 battles using Chinese Aircraft with at least 60% Battle Activity. The emblem belongs to the ROCAF’s 35th Squadron, which flew U-2 aircraft from Taoyuan Air Base from 1961 to 1974. Its cat design echoes features of the aircraft, including its sensors and reconnaissance cameras.

337th Squadron “Ghost” Tail Art, Greece: Defeat 20 players with missiles while flying Greek or Israeli Aircraft. The Greek squadron’s emblem changed from a ghost carrying bombs to one with missiles as its role moved toward interception. This version commemorated the retirement of F-4E 68-0506 from the unit, and the Phantom remains a gate guardian at Larissa Air Base.

41° Gruppo Autonomo AS Emblem, Italy: Destroy 30 Ground or Water targets using Italian Aircraft. The 41° Gruppo Autonomo Aerosiluranti formed as a torpedo-bomber unit in 1941 and operated SM.84 aircraft before returning to the more mechanically reliable SM.79. Its motto, “Usque Ad Inferos,” translates idiomatically as “Back down to hell.”

Ground and naval markings bring the skulls and monsters

“Rice’s Red Devils” Hull Art, USA: Finish in positions 1-3 three times using American Ground Vehicles. Company C of the 89th Medium Tank Battalion painted a monster face on its Sherman tanks during the Korean War. The in-game art uses a generalized hull shape so it can fit more tanks than the original Sherman design.

“Grinning Skull” Emblem, UK: Win 10 battles using British Tanks. The marking was painted on a Matilda tank used by the 7th Royal Tank Regiment, where skull designs were uncommon.

“Yellow Skull and Crossbones” Emblem, Sweden: Finish in positions 1-5 five times using Swedish Ground Vehicles. The marking appeared on a CV90’s rear exhaust grille, likely for a particular exercise, but its specific history is unclear.

1st Anti-Aircraft Company, 7th Anti-Aircraft Regiment Emblem, Japan: Destroy 20 aircraft using Japanese Ground Vehicles. The Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force emblem was inspired by the Type 87, with its bat motif chosen for the animal’s use of echolocation to hunt.

3. SFltl Emblem “Tiefseefisch,” Germany: Score 20,000 damage using German Coastal Vessels. The deep-sea fish design was the emblem of S 34 in the 3rd Fast Boat Flotilla. S-Boat markings helped distinguish vessels after their masts were removed, and the design could be painted on the hull beside the bridge.

Where to find and track the decals

The rewards are in the Monthly Decals tab at the bottom of the customization menu. After the event, each decal moves to its corresponding category. To follow a task from the hangar, open Player Profile > Decals > Monthly Decals, select a reward and choose Track progress.
