Watch Dogs Matters to Ubisoft, but a Creative-House Move Is Not Expected for Now

Yves Guillemot tied Watch Dogs' creative-house status to a possible remake, while IGN independently corroborates a reported Watch Dogs: Legion Director's Cut for the first half of 2027 and says no all-new game is believed to be in development.

Watch Dogs remains important to Ubisoft’s future, but CEO Yves Guillemot said the franchise is not expected to join one of the publisher’s creative houses for now. At Ubisoft’s October 1 annual meeting, an investor asked why Watch Dogs was absent from the new teams’ org chart. The creative houses are organized around particular games, and Guillemot referred to a possible remake of the original Watch Dogs.

His comments did not confirm a remake or give it a timeline. The series began with the original Watch Dogs in 2014. Its latest main entry, Watch Dogs: Legion, launched in 2020 and later received the paid Bloodline expansion.

A separate return for Legion is reportedly planned as a Director’s Cut for the first half of 2027. IGN has independently heard the same plan through its own sources, describing a revamped edition and noting that no all-new Watch Dogs game is believed to be in development. The IGN account does not detail what the edition would change, and Ubisoft has not confirmed the project.

Ubisoft has also canceled projects amid restructuring, including a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Guillemot’s comments point to the series’ importance to Ubisoft, but do not commit the publisher to either a Watch Dogs remake or a Legion Director’s Cut.
