The Jackbox Party Pack 12 Will Turn Word Matches Into a Friendship Contest

MegaPals pairs shared answers with a live relationship map, and the five-game pack arrives on Xbox consoles October 15.

The Jackbox Party Pack 12 will make word association a contest over who in the room thinks most alike. In MegaPals, matching answers score points, and the pair with the strongest record of shared matches can both claim the top prize. The five-game pack arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on October 15, 2026.

Jackbox Games traces the original concept, pitched by Liz Anderson and Chase McClure, to the classic word game Mind Meld in its breakdown on Xbox Wire. Players start with a word and try to come up with matching answers. Responses that do not match become candidates for a group vote, and the chosen hot takes feed into the next prompt. That gives an unusual answer another chance to earn points even when it misses a direct match.

As players type, their phones show real-time information about what others are submitting, offering clues to the group’s emerging associations. The team credits controller engineer Ryan McGill with the feature. A separate likes screen lets everyone vote on favorite words, a joint effort between engineering lead Ariana Miles and art lead Owen Watson.

The map tracks the group’s strongest pairings

Between rounds, a relationship map shows each player’s highest-scoring partner and replays words behind the connections. In an eight-player game, there are 28 possible pairs, so the map presents the group’s standings at a glance. Players can lean into a pairing that is already scoring well or try to catch up with the leading duo.

The pair with the strongest record of distinct matches across the game become the MegaPals, and both players win. That lead can change as rounds award points for matching answers and for responses the group chooses to build on. Individual performance awards at the end give players another way to earn recognition. The King of Friendship host sets a tone for odd, personal answers, which fits a game that rewards both matching with a friend and getting the room talking.
