Apex Legends Fixed a Ballistic Exploit That Crashed Matches

A modified client duplicated weapon optics through Ballistic's Sling passive, overloading servers and disrupting entire lobbies.

Apex Legends’ anti-cheat team has fixed an exploit that let a modified client overload match servers and crash lobbies. The team detailed the issue in its Oct. 1 Steam update, which also confirmed a permanent ban for the suspected user.

The exploit involved Ballistic’s Sling passive. Using a modified game client, the player duplicated a weapon optic far beyond its intended limits. Creating enough copies put excessive strain on the server, leaving the match unresponsive before it crashed for everyone in the lobby.

After a crash, the player would reconnect and try to take advantage of other players being disconnected. The team says it identified the cause and put a fix in place. It permanently banned the suspected user and is actioning accounts it finds using the exploit.

Player reports of suspicious lobby crashes and the information shared with the team helped the investigation. The anti-cheat team said it will continue looking into reports of intentional match disruption and take action when it can confirm abuse.

This is separate from the team’s Sept. 18 enforcement against account sharing, when it announced 60-day suspensions for 258 Predator players.
