Once Human Will Let Beastmasters Summon 3 Animals at Once on September 28
The September 16 (PT) update will temporarily cap Beastmasters at 1 summoned animal before the higher limit arrives later in the month.

Once Human will let Beastmasters summon 3 animals at once starting with its September 28 (PT) version update, but the class will spend the period between updates with a 1-animal limit. Starry Studio announced the revised plan after feedback about the class’s original summon changes.
The studio explained the schedule in its Steam dev blog. The earlier September 16 class plan would have left Beastmasters with one active animal, even as the update added riding, saddles, and animal abilities.
The Beastmaster summon cap now has a 2-step schedule
When the September 16 (PT) update arrives, each Beastmaster will still be able to summon only 1 animal at a time. The limit will increase to 3 with the September 28 (PT) update, while non-Beastmaster classes will remain limited to 1 simultaneous summon.
Beastmasters will be able to use animal items from the backpack or hotbar to summon the matching animal. Using the item again will recall it, and summoning will have a 10-second cooldown. The class will also receive a 70% load reduction when carrying animals.
Previously bred animals will not lose their value during the temporary restriction. Rare patterns, attributes, and traits that depend on multiple animals being present, including Pack Wolves, Alpha Wolf, Wrath of Nature, and Tearer, will continue to work as intended when the 3-animal limit becomes available. Starry Studio also said it may make future numerical adjustments to related traits based on combat balance, with advance notice in later announcements.
Riding remains a major part of the class update
All classes will be able to ride 1 saddled animal at a time, but only Beastmasters can craft saddles and use animal active and passive skills. Non-Beastmasters can ride animals equipped with saddles, though they cannot summon inside dungeons or during combat and will not receive the animals’ ability bonuses.
Mounted players can fire weapons, use melee attacks, and activate some Deviation skills. Full-body animations and special actions such as opening weapon crates, teleporting, or switching worlds will end the riding state. Starry Studio also plans to add aquatic animals as the first new group of rideable creatures, with support for movement across water, but no date was provided.
| Animal | Passive skill | Active skill |
|---|---|---|
| Deer | Improves riding speed and can raise Weapon DMG and Status DMG by up to 37.5% based on movement speed | Enters a galloping state that greatly increases movement speed for 12 seconds |
| Boar | Takes 20% of the rider’s damage and gains damage reduction | Charges forward, gaining up to 20% damage reduction after hitting enemies for 10 seconds, with an 8-second cooldown |
| Bear | Raises the rider’s Weapon DMG and Status DMG by 20% and gains damage reduction | Releases a shockwave that deals 200% of Attack as damage and can raise the rider’s damage by up to 15% for 5 seconds |
| Wild Buffalo | Has a chance to produce Milk when devouring crops | Finds a nearby edible crop and consumes it to recover Energy |
Deer, Boar, Bear, and Wild Buffalo are the animals that support mounting in this version. Wild animals do not have these active or passive abilities by default, so Beastmasters will need saddled animals to use the full system.
Gardener changes include Director Fox and grafting rates
Director Fox will remain useful after the Tameness changes. Its current effect, which increases Securement Progress for bred animals by up to 20%, will become a reduction of up to 20% to their Energy consumption. Effects of the same type will not stack, and the change is planned for the September 16 (PT) update.
Nature Affinity will later become a special item craftable by Gardeners. Using it will allow players to control sanity recovery or reduction according to their environment, supporting both pollution-zone survival and builds that depend on health or sanity control.
Several Biomechanical grafting rates will also change. The Portal Biomechanical will rise from 50% to 80%, while Rainfall Reaper Biomechanical will increase from 20% to 80%. Biomechanical Balloon, Watcher Biomechanical, Flare Bulbfly Biomechanical, and Agent Biomechanical will remain at 80%.
