Halloween: The Game removed its closet sex minigame before full launch

IllFonic says a hotfix removed the Two-Person Power-Up after an unintended issue let endgame reinforcement characters use it.

Halloween: The Game has removed its closet-based Two-Person Power-Up before its full release. IllFonic says the latest hotfix addressed an unintended issue that let endgame reinforcement characters use the interaction. The full release remains scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PT, so the change happened during Digital Deluxe Edition early access.

During early access, two survivors could invite each other into a closet or wardrobe and complete a sequence of button prompts. Success awarded the Stronger Together buff. A shaking camera, grunts, and a rapidly filling heart made the encounter’s intent clear without showing anything explicit.

Lynda, a flirtatious playable civilian, also had an extra trait connected to the interaction, but that trait is missing from the current build. The game’s latest Steam patch notes do not mention the removal, which made the hotfix easy to miss.

IllFonic’s explanation for the hotfix

IllFonic told IGN that the hotfix removed the Two-Person Power-Up because an unintended issue allowed endgame reinforcement characters to use it. The developer called the mistake “a major oversight on our part.” IllFonic has not confirmed whether this exact interaction will return.

The feature also raised an uncomfortable age-related concern. Laurie Strode is 17 in the version of the story depicted by the game, while dead characters can return as older figures, including a police officer and Michael Myers’ therapist Dr. Samuel Loomis, who is in his 50s. IllFonic’s explanation points to the reinforcement-character issue rather than confirming that age concern as the reason for the removal.

Other activities remain in the game, including rhythm-style button tapping and reflex-based skill checks. Many of those moments happen around a character’s death and let eliminated players grant buffs to squadmates who are still alive. IllFonic has also said that more content and minigames are planned as it deals with the game’s immediate needs.

Reaction has been negative in parts of the community. One commenter called the removal “Lame as hell” in a Reddit discussion, while a separate thread asking for the minigame’s return has also drawn attention.

For now, players joining before launch should not expect to find the removed encounter. Whether it returns in a later update remains unclear.
