PS5 Players Will Get Free Live TV in the U.S. Later Today

The service will offer more than 100 live channels alongside movies, sports, news, anime, creator content, and on-demand entertainment.

PS5 players in the U.S. will be able to access Live TV on PS5 later today, August 31, through a free ad-supported service from Sony Pictures Television. The offering will bring more than 100 live channels to the console, along with a growing selection of on-demand movies, shows, anime, sports, news, and other programming.

PlayStation outlined the rollout in its August 31 announcement. The service will be available from the PS5 Media section rather than requiring players to leave the console’s main entertainment hub.

How to access Live TV on PS5

When the service becomes available, players can open it from the PS5 home screen in just a few steps.

  1. Open the Media tab.
  2. Select the Live TV on PS5 icon.
  3. Choose “Sign In With My PlayStation Account” to connect the account and begin watching.

PlayStation’s launch video highlights the service’s channel-based interface and its mix of entertainment options.

Movies, shows, sports, and anime will be available

Movie programming will cover several genres, including action, horror, and science fiction. Launch channels will include MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits, and Cinevault.

TV viewers will find shows such as Community, The Shield, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, Deal or No Deal USA, and Fear Factor. Ice Road Truckers will also be available through A+E’s HISTORY programming.

Anime fans can watch Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, and Death Note, among other series. Crunchyroll will provide the exclusive Black Clover and Box Sets channels as part of the launch lineup.

Sports coverage will include FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now, and UFC, with programming spanning MMA, football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing, and soccer. News and weather options will include NBC News Now, Fox Weather, and LiveNOW from FOX.

The lineup will also feature creator and specialty programming from Hot Ones, Spotify’s The Ringer, Futcrunch, and Idle Mode. Gaming, esports, comedy, action sports, documentaries, podcasts, and the exclusive eCLUTCH channel will round out the selection.

More channels are planned

Live TV on PS5 will receive refreshed programming, new channels, and more content over time. Sony is also looking to expand the service to Canada while continuing to consider other regions. Programming can vary by local TV market and may change as the service develops.
