Albion Online’s Dragonfire Update Will Bring a 20-Player Raid and New Rewards on August 31

Waystones from the Ancient Lands will unlock the private entrance, while dragon attacks will appear across the Royal Continent and Outlands.

Albion Online’s Dragonfire update will launch on August 31, bringing a 20-player raid dungeon, open-world dragon attacks, and a batch of rewards that includes new armor, food, potions, and a flying mount.

Sandbox Interactive used its third and final preview to detail the Dragon Sanctuary, Azaryon, the Fire Dragon, and the rewards tied to these encounters in a final Steam announcement featuring Co-Creative Director Michael Schwahn and Combat Balance Designer Nick Yaloz.

The video also walks through the raid and its reward loop.

The Dragon Sanctuary requires a Waystone

The Dragon Sanctuary will be a 20-player raid dungeon built around high-level PvE encounters. Groups will need to find a Waystone before they can enter, with these rare items coming from the Ancient Lands or the Marketplace.

Waystones are tradable, so players can either earn one through the Ancient Lands or purchase one from another player. Our Ancient Lands overview covers the region’s portals and other activities arriving with Dragonfire.

Using a Waystone in the open world will reveal an entrance that only the player who activated it and their party members can use. PvP will not be available inside the dungeon, allowing groups to bring their best PvE equipment without worrying about enemy players joining the encounter.

Dungeon mobs will also be immune to forced movement. Abilities that normally push or pull enemies will not provide an easy answer, so positioning and coordination will carry more weight. The first major boss is Maeve, the Unfettered Oracle, who attacks by throwing boulders across the battlefield.

Azaryon, the Fire Dragon, awaits beyond Maeve

Groups that defeat Maeve will face Azaryon, the Fire Dragon. Sandbox Interactive describes Azaryon as Albion Online’s toughest PvE challenge so far, with custom movement and combat mechanics built around the boss’s enormous size.

Azaryon responds to a group’s movement, positioning, and threat level. The fight is divided into phases, and each phase brings its own pacing, mechanics, and demands. Players will need to adjust their strategy as the battle changes instead of relying on one fixed rotation.

Defeating Azaryon grants every party member a Lingering Dragon Spirit. The effect lasts for one week and makes the Dragon Sanctuary harder during that period. Players who manage repeated victories will also find demanding missions in the Albion Journal.

Dragon attacks will target 2 regions

Dragonfire will also send dragons into Albion’s open world. On the Royal Continent, these attacks will begin with very little warning. Once players deal enough damage, the dragon will retreat and leave behind a treasure chest.

Every player who takes part in the encounter can earn loot from that chest, including solo players. That gives smaller groups a reason to stop what they are doing when a dragon appears nearby.

Outlands attacks will follow a different rhythm. The game will announce them hours in advance, giving guilds time to organize. Guilds will compete against the dragon and against one another, with the winning guild earning a large amount of Season Points. Individual participants will receive personal reward chests.

Dragonslayer Armor leads the new rewards

The Dragonslayer Armor set is a new leather armor set with its own abilities. Its pieces can be crafted with Fire Dragon Scales or artifacts dropped by dragons.

  • Dragonslayer Hood lets players throw a flare that reveals enemies and slows their cooldowns.
  • Dragonslayer Jacket sends the wearer to a targeted location and creates a protective barrier where they land.
  • Dragonslayer Shoes offer a choice between a large movement speed increase and cooldown reduction.

Another rare reward is the Drake Egg, which can be raised into a Firewing Drake. Raising one requires feeding it other mounts, but the finished mount is strong across every area of the game.

The Firewing Drake also has a glide ability that provides a speed boost and cannot be interrupted by damage. Only a stun can stop it, which should make the mount especially useful when escaping dangerous situations.

Dragonfire’s crafting additions extend beyond armor and mounts. Drake Eggs can be turned into Drake Biscuits, which grant a combat and gathering Fame buff for 25 hours. Players fishing in the Ancient Lands can catch Leyfin Fish and use them to prepare an omelette that increases healing output.

Dragon Blood will be used to create the Lifeward Potion, which can protect allies from death for a short time. Together with the armor abilities and Firewing Drake, these items give players several reasons to keep returning to dragon encounters after Dragonfire launches.
