League of Legends Exploit Crackdown Suspends Thousands and Permanently Bans More Than 100 Accounts
The penalties target an infinite-gold control ward bug and a separate bot-lane interaction involving Viego's passive.
On August 15, Riot said it had issued penalty waves against League of Legends accounts that abused two gold-related bugs. Several thousand accounts received 14-day suspensions for each exploit, while just over 100 accounts were permanently banned for the most serious use of an infinite-gold bug, according to Riot’s post on X.

The Infinite-Gold Bug Led to Permanent Bans
The first exploit involved selling more than 100 extra control wards while the champion was dead. Because the bug failed to remove a ward from the inventory after each sale, players could repeatedly sell the same stock and generate gold.
Riot permanently banned just over 100 accounts worldwide for abusing that exploit at this level. Players who made more minor use of the same bug received 14-day suspensions instead.
Viego Interaction Resulted in More Suspensions
A separate gold-generating bug connected the bot-lane quest with Viego’s passive. When the possessed player’s inventory was empty, the interaction allowed players to retain ownership of that player’s boots.
Several thousand accounts worldwide were suspended for 14 days after abusing the Viego-related interaction. Riot also asked players not to use bugs for unfair advantages and thanked everyone who reported the two issues.
