Escape from Tarkov’s Explosive-Canister Scav Kills May Now Cost Karma
A Reserve kill record appears to show a Scav death attributed to an unknown thrown weapon, though the image does not confirm that an explosive canister caused it.

Escape from Tarkov players may no longer be able to lure friendly Scavs toward orange explosive canisters and destroy them without losing karma. The behavior reportedly worked at the start of the Season, but a recent gameplay discovery suggests those kills may now count against the player.
The kill record shows a death on Reserve involving a player identified as Tair Lyahi. The target is marked as a SCAV, and the status reads “Killed (Unknown weapon throw 12m).” That supports the possibility of an explosive-related kill, but it does not confirm that a canister caused the death or that karma was deducted.

That distinction is important because the earlier trick depended on environmental explosions avoiding the usual penalty. If the behavior has changed, players baiting friendly Scavs toward the canisters could now lose karma even when they do not directly fire the killing shot. The example is not enough to establish whether the change affects every map, mode, or account.
For now, using orange explosive canisters around friendly Scavs carries a possible karma cost. Players may want to avoid testing the interaction until more cases or an official explanation clarify how the kill is being attributed.
