Silent Hill 2’s Patch 1.07 Has a Shadow Problem on PS5 Pro

Konami acknowledged crushed blacks in Performance Mode on PS5 and PS5 Pro and said it is investigating possible solutions.

Silent Hill 2‘s Patch 1.07 was meant to address the remake’s PS5 Pro image-quality problems, but it left Performance Mode with crushed blacks and broken-looking shadows instead. Konami has acknowledged the issue and is investigating.

The 6GB update brought PSSR2 to the remake, helping address earlier upscaling problems when playing at 60fps. However, the patch also introduced new visual problems in Performance Mode on both PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Konami UK acknowledged the issue in a statement, confirming that its team was investigating the problems and considering possible solutions. The publisher said it would share more information soon.

Performance Mode is the problem area

Reports in a ResetEra discussion describe shadows becoming noticeably darker after the update, creating the crushed-black effect in Performance Mode. A comparison shared on ResetEra suggests the issue does not appear in Quality Mode.

That workaround comes with a clear tradeoff. Quality Mode limits the remake to 30fps, while Performance Mode is intended to provide a smoother 60fps experience. Players now have to choose between the higher frame rate and the cleaner shadow presentation until Konami provides a fix.

The broader update also targeted performance in both modes and the look of the fog, details included in the Patch 1.07 coverage. Those improvements are now competing with a new bug affecting one of the remake’s most important visual elements.

Konami has not given a repair date

For now, Konami has only confirmed that the team is working on the Performance Mode problems. The publisher has not announced when a corrective update will arrive, leaving PS5 Pro players with Quality Mode as the temporary option for avoiding the reported shadow issue.
