Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together are the Epic Games Store’s free PC games for this week. The giveaway runs from Thursday, August 6, through Thursday, August 13, at 8:00 a.m. PT / 11:00 a.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. BST / 5:00 p.m. CEST. Claim either game during the window and it remains in your library.
The two games offer very different moods. Beacon Pines is a single-player story adventure about an animal-filled town and a book that can be rewritten, while We Were Here Together sends two players into the Antarctic wilderness and a castle where communication is their main tool. They follow last week’s Epic giveaway of Sol Cesto and OXTO.
Beacon Pines turns choices into a storybook mystery
Beacon Pines presents its story as an illustrated book. You follow Luka while also acting as the reader, flipping back through earlier pages when you want to test a different outcome. The setup gives the narrative a choose-your-own-adventure feel without limiting players to a single path.
As Luka’s mystery unfolds, the town’s animal residents speak in playful nonsense, and new words appear as charms. Those charms can be placed at certain moments in the story, changing what happens next and opening different routes through the mystery.
The Chronicle keeps those routes in a branching tree. It records earlier decisions and lets you revisit turning points while connecting the clues around the town’s spooky warehouse. That makes Beacon Pines a good fit for players who enjoy story games with several paths to follow.
We Were Here Together makes communication part of every puzzle
We Were Here Together takes a two-player approach. You and a friend awaken in the frozen Antarctic wilderness after spotting an emergency flare, and each of you receives a walkie-talkie. From there, solving the game’s puzzles depends on describing what you see and working out the answer together.
A castle later separates the players for the remainder of the game. Each person must communicate their surroundings well enough to reconnect while dealing with a haunted house, a maniacal jester, and puzzles built around information split between both sides.
We Were Here Together has also appeared in an earlier Epic Games Store giveaway, so players who claimed it before may already have it in their library.
