Eric Baptizat Returns to Ubisoft as Assassin’s Creed Game Director
The former Valhalla director previously held lead roles on Black Flag, Origins, and Unity before directing the Dead Space remake at EA Motive.
Ubisoft has brought Eric Baptizat back to the company as the new Game Director for the Assassin’s Creed brand. His return follows a career that included directing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and leading development work on several of the franchise’s most recognized games.
Baptizat spent almost 16 years at Ubisoft between 2005 and 2021. During that time, he was the lead game designer on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, a senior game designer on Assassin’s Creed Unity, and the project lead for game design on Assassin’s Creed Origins. He later directed Valhalla. After leaving Ubisoft, he joined EA Motive, where he directed Battlefield 6 and the Dead Space remake.
Jean Guesdon, Assassin’s Creed’s head of content, announced the appointment in a LinkedIn post. “Éric needs no introduction in this universe,” Guesdon wrote, pointing to Baptizat’s work on Black Flag, Origins, and Valhalla. He also praised Baptizat’s focus on gameplay, experience with the franchise, and collaborative approach.
Baptizat’s new appointment covers the Assassin’s Creed brand as a whole. Ubisoft has not announced a specific game tied to the role.
Baptizat is not the only former Ubisoft veteran to return to a leadership role. Guesdon spent 17 years at the company between 2005 and 2023 before leaving. He later returned as head of content and took over as creative director on Assassin’s Creed Hexe after Clint Hocking departed Ubisoft for the second time.
The appointment comes during a difficult period for Ubisoft. At the start of 2026, the company announced a major reset that canceled six games and divided production among separate creative houses. Vantage Studios, which includes Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, was also backed by Tencent.
Ubisoft still has several Assassin’s Creed projects in development, including Hexe, Jade, and Invictus. Baptizat’s return places a director with deep experience across the series in charge as the publisher works toward its next group of releases.
