An alleged Xbox email has outlined a multi-year plan for converting physical game ownership into digital access, along with a wider backward-compatibility rollout. The document is unverified, but it reportedly includes milestones running from July 2026 through 2028.
The material was attributed to eXtas1s, who said it came from an account identified as Retro Gamer. The roadmap reportedly placed a Disc-to-Digital Insider public beta and early access for original Xbox backward compatibility in July 2026. It then scheduled general availability for August 2026, with the program shipping to all Xbox One and Xbox Series X owners.

The Xbox 360 portion also appears to depend on individual publishers agreeing to add more games to the backward-compatibility catalog. That part remains speculation rather than an announced Xbox policy.
