Fallout: New California, the ambitious total conversion mod for Fallout: New Vegas, is now available through GOG. Players who own Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition can install and launch the project without piecing together its files and recommended mods manually. The GOG listing is part of the store’s Game Preservation initiative and provides the project as a one-click installation.
The mod is not new, despite its fresh GOG availability. It had already spent roughly seven years in development by 2018, when it was still known as Project Brazil. Its move to an official GOG listing gives the long-running fan project a much simpler installation path than downloading everything through ModDB and handling the setup independently.
ModDB remains part of the project’s history, but the GOG release is the easier option for players who want to see what the team built without managing a large collection of separate files.
Fallout: New California follows a resident of Vault 18. The protagonist is an orphan, loner, and mutant who faces a life-changing choice during the final night of the Vault Ball season in 2260. That places the story before Fallout 2, during the era of the original Interplay games.
The campaign brings several factions into conflict, including the New California Republic under President Wendell Peterson, the Bishop family from New Reno, the remaining Shi clans, the Enclave’s Leonidas Squadron, the Super Mutant Army, and the Raider Alliance. Their struggle centers on the remote Athens-Tec Uranium Mine near the Long I-15.
The fan-made campaign also includes full voice acting, a dynamic radio system, and eight companions who can join the journey. The project was released in two main segments: the first arrived in 2013, while the second and final segment launched in 2018. A third segment had been planned, but the currently available release contains the two completed parts.
The project was previously praised as one of the most polished and confident Fallout mods around. Its arrival on GOG gives that older release a fresh chance to reach players who missed it the first time.
