PlayStation 5, the next-gen console from Sony, will repeat the shocker of E3 2019 by missing E3 2020. That means that PS5 won’t be first discovered at E3 2020. In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony has unveiled that PlayStation won’t be a part of E3 2019, which makes it the second year in a row.
Knowing that PlayStation has used E3 as the main stage for unveiling details of the next consoles. It feels pretty bad for the fans, and according to multiple other sources, it appears that Sony might host their PS5 event. In the interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Interactive Entertainment stated the following:
We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.
We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.
As a fan of E3 in general, I do believe that this may hurt E3 on a bigger scale than the last year. E3 is getting lost in the marketing category, and this would most probably result in Ubisoft being the only publisher among the bigger ones.
