Amnesia: The Dark Descent Will Get a New Version in Late 2026
Frictional Games has not said whether the project is a full remake, remaster, or another kind of re-release.

Frictional Games is preparing a new version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent for release toward the end of 2026. The project was mentioned in the developer’s 2025 annual report, though the document does not explain how extensive the new version will be.
Remake or Remaster?
The report says Frictional Games is planning to release a new version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent at the end of 2026. It does not identify the project as either a remake or a remaster, leaving the scope of the work unclear for now.
The report also identifies Ontos as Frictional’s main focus and says the studio’s next “major” game is in pre-production. It does not provide further details about either project.
The original game launched in 2010 and introduced players to Daniel, a man who wakes up inside a desolate castle with no memory of his past. Its first-person survival horror design placed the focus on atmosphere, vulnerability, and uncovering the story through the castle’s dark corridors rather than relying on traditional cutscenes or time skips.
Frictional Games most recently released a main Amnesia entry in 2023. A return to The Dark Descent could give the studio a chance to revisit the original’s presentation for newer hardware, but the annual report does not provide details about technical upgrades, content changes, or supported platforms.
The announcement appears in Frictional Games’ 2025 annual report, which places the planned release toward the end of 2026. More information about the project’s format and features will be needed before it is clear how closely it will follow the 2010 original.
