Battlefield 6 Roadmap Points to Custom Lobbies, New Maps, and More

Custom Lobbies and Spectator Mode will arrive on August 18, followed by Proximity Chat on September 15 and three new maps in Season 5.

Battlefield 6 is heading into the next phase of its live-service plan with Custom Lobbies, Spectator Mode, Proximity Chat, a Server Browser, Platoons, multiplayer leaderboards, and three new maps on the schedule.

Battlefield Studios outlined the plans in a new Steam community update. Season 4 is already underway with Naval Warfare and Tsuru Reef, while the next group of features will arrive across the remainder of Season 4 and Season 5.

Custom Lobbies and Proximity Chat Arrive First

Custom Lobbies and Spectator Mode are scheduled for August 18 as part of Season 4 Phase 2, also known as Top Gun. The features will first appear through Battlefield Labs in Live.

Hosts will be able to assign players to teams, change selected match settings, and run private matches or community tournaments. Spectator Mode will give players a way to follow those matches. The initial rollout will support Battle Royale Quads and Conquest, with more modes planned later.

Season 4 Phase 3, Tidal Strike, will follow on September 15 with the first version of Proximity Chat. It will begin in Battle Royale, where the team plans to evaluate audio range, clarity, controls, moderation tools, and its effect on match flow before bringing the feature to Multiplayer at a later date.

Season 5 Will Add Maps and Social Features

Season 5 is planned to include three new maps. Battlefield Studios has not announced their locations, but one map will focus on infantry combat and the other two will support larger combined-arms battles.

Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City are also scheduled for reworks later in Season 5. Both the new maps and the reworked locations will go through Battlefield Labs testing before reaching the live game. Testing will cover layouts, objective flow, traversal, and the balance between infantry and vehicles.

Platoons are on track for Season 5 Phase 3. The first version will let players create or join a Platoon and use new in-game tools to organize and represent their group.

Multiplayer Leaderboards are planned for the Season 5 launch. They will build on systems used for Ranked Battle Royale and let players compare their performance across Multiplayer. Battlefield Studios has not yet shared the categories or full rules.

Server Browser Will Supplement Matchmaking

The Server Browser will enter Battlefield Labs testing before its planned Season 5 release. It will offer another way to find matches and may help players stay with the same group between rounds, but it will not replace matchmaking.

Battlefield Studios is still investigating complaints about bot-heavy lobbies, uneven ticket counts, match backfilling, and high-ping games. The team said it is working on the connected systems behind those problems and plans to publish a dedicated update once it has clearer findings.

Multiplayer Ranked Has No Release Window

Multiplayer Ranked remains in development, with the team reviewing lessons from Ranked Battle Royale and assessing the rules and supporting systems needed for a competitive mode at Battlefield’s scale.

There is no firm release window yet. The team plans to share more once development moves further along.

Balance Work Continues Across Combat Systems

Battlefield Studios said player sentiment around weapon balance improved by 23 points between June and July in its community survey. Early gameplay data also suggested that average time-to-kill increased and that players who win engagements are taking more damage, giving opponents more time to respond.

The team is continuing to review weapons across different ranges and player groups before making broader decisions. Vehicle combat and gadget effectiveness are also under review, including how those systems interact with infantry across different modes.

More Details From the Developer Q&A

The accompanying Discord Q&A covered several other topics. The team said reticle improvements are being tested to make weapon sights easier to see against different environments. It also plans a fix for the Anti-Personnel Shell exploit later in Season 4, while changes to air and anti-air combat are also in development.

The RCB-90 will receive stability and handling adjustments, along with better durability against Scout Helicopter weapons. Battlefield Studios is also evaluating sniper rifles, DMRs, suppression, footstep audio, movement, controller responsiveness, and the IGLA’s interaction with flares.

Carrier Strike will launch with Season 4 Phase 2, while Fighter Sweep will be added to Gauntlet. Neither mode is immediately planned to remain permanent, though future rotations will depend on player feedback. The F/A-81F Super Spectre, a two-seat jet with a fully customizable loadout, will also arrive during Phase 2.

The team confirmed that Operation Augur will return through the featured playlist rotation and said more seasons will follow Season 5. Commander Mode is not currently planned for Battlefield 6, and third-party server rentals are not part of the current Server Browser plans.

Battlefield 6 Plans Continue Past Season 5

Battlefield Studios said Season 5 will not mark the end of development for Battlefield 6 or REDSEC. Teams are already working on later content, with Battlefield Labs remaining a key part of testing and player feedback.

Players can report issues through the EA Forums as the next features move through testing.
