Sandfall Interactive wants to bring Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Nintendo Switch 2, but the studio is not ready to announce a port. The team is still testing whether the game’s technical demands can be handled by the console.
During a postmortem event in Yokohama, Sandfall CEO and creative director Guillaume Broche, co-founder and CTO Tom Guillermin, and lead character and concept artist Alan Reynaud discussed the possibility of a Switch 2 version. Broche said the studio was interested in finding a way to make it happen, but that an announcement would be premature.
“We are interested in looking for a way to do it, but it’s too early for us to announce anything at this point,” Broche said in comments reported by Automaton.
Unreal Engine 5 adds another hurdle
Guillermin described the potential port as a major technical task. He pointed out that Switch 2 has less power than PlayStation and Xbox Series X, which gives Sandfall more to consider as a smaller studio.
The game’s use of Unreal Engine 5 also complicates the work. Although Switch 2 supports the engine, Broche said that many Unreal Engine 5 features are not available on the console.
Reynaud mentioned Lumen Lite as one example of technology that could help. It is easier to run than standard Lumen, but the team will need to track Unreal Engine updates and decide which tools can support a Switch 2 release.
For now, Sandfall has confirmed interest rather than a product announcement. There is no release date, launch window, or confirmation that the port will ultimately be released.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025 and set records at the ceremony with 13 nominations and nine awards.
