Unholy Death Knight Reclaims S Tier in WoW Midnight Season 2 PTR Rankings
Blood Death Knight and Holy Paladin also moved up, while Mistweaver Monk, Discipline Priest, and Protection Paladin slipped in the latest assessment.
World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 2 is still being tested on the Public Test Realm, and the latest Mythic+ rankings have brought Unholy Death Knight back to the top tier. The updated list reflects recent class tuning and the way the testing meta has developed so far.
The rankings cover DPS, healer, and tank specializations. They weigh damage or healing output alongside utility, survivability, and how each spec fits the dungeons in the upcoming season. Blizzard can still make more balance changes before Season 2 reaches the live game.
Unholy Death Knight is back at the top
Unholy Death Knight received enough buffs to return to S tier after Frost Death Knight briefly looked like the leading specialization for the season. Its damage, burst potential, utility, and defensive tools give it a strong package for high-level Mythic+ groups.
The current assessment places Unholy among the best damage dealers in the test environment. Its combination of survivability and group utility could also make it a central part of the strongest compositions if the spec keeps its current power level.
Blood Death Knight makes the biggest jump
Blood Death Knight made the largest move in the new update, climbing from B+ to A+. A bug involving Dancing Rune Weapon was fixed, while the spec also received improvements to its damage and durability.
Those changes currently make Blood the highest-DPS tank in the Season 2 testing environment. The assessment also considers the spec overtuned at present, which leaves room for Blizzard to reduce its power before launch.
Holy Paladin rises as Mistweaver falls
Holy Paladin moved into S tier after receiving a 5% healing increase and better mana economy through its four-piece bonus. That puts it among the strongest healer options in the current PTR meta.
Mistweaver Monk went the other direction. After spending roughly four and a half months in S tier, it fell to A+ following new nerfs to its kit. The specialization remains a strong option, but it no longer holds the same position it had during the previous testing period.
Discipline Priest also lost ground. Changes to Void Shield weakened its ability to maintain healing in high-level keys, pushing it away from the top spots it had threatened to reach in earlier PTR tests.
Protection Paladin left the list’s broken category and moved from S tier to A+. It remains a solid tank, but Blood Death Knight’s improved performance has changed the comparison between the two specs.
The rankings can still change
These placements are based on ongoing PTR testing rather than a final Season 2 balance state. Recent dungeon tuning, including a 4% Mythic+ enemy health increase, can also affect how specs perform in practice.
The list is an opinion based on current testing data, output, utility, and dungeon requirements. Further class changes and the live-season meta could move several specializations before and after Midnight Season 2 begins.
