Sandfall Interactive wants its next game to get weird after Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
CEO Guillaume Broche said the studio plans to remain small while giving its developers room to dream on their second project.

Sandfall Interactive will take its time before revealing or releasing its next game, but the studio already has a clear idea of how it wants to approach the project. After spending years building Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the team wants its next release to give it more room for creative risks.
Speaking with Automaton, Sandfall CEO Guillaume Broche said it is too early to share precise details. He explained that the team had a great deal of fun creating Expedition 33 and wants to rediscover that same passion on its next project.
“Expedition 33 was quite a long project too,” Broche said. Development lasted six years for him, five and a half years for Tom, and between four and five years for most of the rest of the team. That long production period is one reason Sandfall wants to give itself permission to dream again.
“We’re going to go a bit crazy,” Broche said, though that does not mean the studio plans to build a giant production with an enormous staff.
Sandfall wants to keep its team small
Sandfall currently has around 26 employees. Broche described that size as “more than enough” for pre-production on the next game, suggesting the studio is not rushing to expand simply because Expedition 33 became a major success.
That smaller structure is part of what Sandfall believes helped the RPG stay focused. Broche warned that hiring a large number of people and greatly expanding the game’s scope could take away some of the team’s character.
“If we know we can’t do everything, we have to focus on what matters,” Broche said. In his view, that approach helped make Expedition 33 feel purposeful, with its systems and ideas serving a clear role instead of adding size for its own sake.
No pressure to repeat Expedition 33
Sandfall’s comments also fit with the studio’s broader attitude toward the project that follows Expedition 33. Broche has previously indicated that the team is not building its next game around sales comparisons or the need to match the first RPG’s awards run.
The studio’s next release remains years away, and Sandfall has not announced its name, genre, platforms, or launch window. For now, the clearest description is that the team wants to make something it finds cool, while keeping the focused development style that defined its debut.
