Madden 27 May Expand Microtransactions in Superstar Mode

The reported plans also include more ways to speed up progression outside Superstar, following EA's reversal on similar features in College Football 27.

EA Sports may be preparing to add more microtransactions to Madden 27, including purchases tied to the single-player Superstar mode. The reported plans come shortly before the game’s launch and follow a recent backlash over similar features in EA Sports College Football 27.

According to reporting from Insider Gaming, Madden 27 will offer additional ways to spend money in Superstar. Other parts of the game are also expected to include monetization options that can speed up progression.

The news follows protests from College Football 27 players who objected to single-player microtransactions and the removal of XP sliders from Road to Glory. EA later removed those purchases from Road to Glory and Dynasty Mode, while adding more XP options to Dynasty.

Sources familiar with EA’s plans said the company wants to communicate its monetization features more clearly this time. The lack of upfront information was described as one of the main problems with College Football 27, which left players feeling blindsided when the features came to light.

One source could not confirm whether the broader use of microtransactions was connected to the pending sale to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The source did say that increasing revenue had been a major topic in internal discussions.

EA is also preparing for a strong response from players and content creators. Better communication may reduce some of the backlash, but sources said the company is not expected to reverse course as it did with College Football 27.

One person familiar with the plans told Insider Gaming, “They won’t give in to every social media movement.”

The reported approach puts Madden 27 in an awkward spot before launch. EA has already seen how quickly players can organize around single-player monetization, and Superstar could become the next focus of that debate once the game arrives.
