The Best Ground Mounts to Find in Palworld 1.0

This guide covers saddle requirements, mount speeds, Palpedia numbers, and spawn locations for early- and late-game rides.

Palworld’s Palpagos Islands are much easier to cross once you have a mount. Ground mounts are the first practical way to speed up travel, and several Pals can carry you across areas that would take much longer to cross on foot.

The right choice depends on how far you are in the game. Direhowl is an excellent early option, while Pals such as Necromus and Paladius offer much higher speed later on. Here is how to unlock ground mounts in Palworld 1.0, followed by the best Pals to catch at each stage.

How to Ride Ground Mount Pals in Palworld

You cannot ride a Pal immediately after catching it. Each mount needs its own Saddle, which is part of the Pal Gear technology tree. The Saddle becomes available in the Technology menu after you catch the corresponding ridable Pal for the first time, although its required level may vary.

After unlocking the recipe, craft the Saddle at one of the appropriate workstations:

  • Pal Gear Workbench: Available at Level 6.
  • Ancient Workbench: Available at Level 67 and usable only by Pals.

Once the Saddle is finished, place the Pal in your active party. You can then summon and ride it, whether it is a ground, swimming, or flying mount.

Best Early-Game Ground Mounts

These Pals are useful during the opening portion of the game and are generally easier to reach than the late-game choices. Their mount speed ranges are included below, along with their Palpedia numbers and known spawn areas.

Pal Palpedia No. Mount Speed Where to Find It
Direhowl 33 800–1,050 West side of Sea Breeze Archipelago, south and north sides of Bamboo Groves, west side of Windswept Hills, and Marsh Island
Grintale 70 650–1,000 Sakurajima Island during the day and night, Verdant Brook at night, and Moonless Shore at night
Eikthyrdeer 32 700–900 Windswept Hills, the south side of Bamboo Groves, and Marsh Island
Univolt 54 720–1,100 Northwest side of Bamboo Groves

Direhowl stands out among the early choices because its top speed reaches 1,050. Univolt can go even faster at its upper range, but its known early spawn area is narrower. Eikthyrdeer and Grintale are still useful alternatives if they are easier to reach in your current area.

Best Late-Game Ground Mounts

Late-game ground mounts reach much higher speeds, but some require difficult boss encounters or trips to the more remote islands. Necromus has the highest listed speed range, while several other options provide strong performance across different regions.

Pal Palpedia No. Mount Speed Where to Find It
Necromus 199 1,300–1,900 Dessicated Desert, where it always appears with Paladius in a Level 60 joint Alpha field boss encounter
Paladius 198 800–1,800 Dessicated Desert, where it always appears with Necromus in a Level 60 joint Alpha field boss encounter
Ophydia 175 700–1,500 Level 69 Alpha field boss encounter in Sunreach at (-590, -1478)
Pyrin 93 850–1,300 Northeast section of Mount Obsidian
Azurmane 161 900–1,260 South edge of Feybreak Island
Dazemu 123 900–1,200 Dessicated Desert and Northern Rock Field on Sakurajima Island
Starryon 130 900–1,250 Eastern yellow section of Feybreak Island at night
Gildane 154 840–1,260 Central section of Feybreak Island
Fenglope 83 750–1,050 No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary

Necromus is the fastest ground mount in this group, with a listed speed range of 1,300–1,900. Its location also makes it one of the hardest options to obtain because it shares a Level 60 Alpha field boss encounter with Paladius. Ophydia reaches 1,500 at the top of its range, while Azurmane, Dazemu, Starryon, and Gildane are useful choices for players visiting Feybreak Island or the desert.

Which Ground Mount Should You Choose?

For a quick start, look for Direhowl or Univolt. Direhowl appears in several early regions, while Univolt has the higher maximum speed. Eikthyrdeer is another convenient option if you are already traveling through Windswept Hills or Bamboo Groves.

Once you can handle the late-game areas and Alpha encounters, Necromus is the clearest speed choice. Paladius and Ophydia are also strong alternatives, while Fenglope can be worth catching if you want a mount found at a Wildlife Sanctuary rather than one tied to a high-level boss fight.
