Baldur’s Gate 3 has a new way to look at the Forgotten Realms. Modder Relysia released a camera mod that places the view over the player character’s shoulder, creating a close third-person perspective instead of the game’s usual angled camera.
The camera remains behind the character during regular movement, then briefly returns to the standard view when players aim spells, jump, or inspect objects. Once the action ends, it automatically switches back.
A camera that reacts to movement
The mod also includes a dynamic field of view. The view pulls back as the character runs, giving movement a stronger sense of speed without leaving the over-the-shoulder setup.
Camera height changes along with the character, too. It adjusts when the player crouches or stands, and it accounts for different character sizes so the viewpoint stays properly aligned across various races and builds.
Relysia recommends using a controller, although the mod also supports keyboard and mouse. Players can download the True Third-Person Camera mod on Nexus Mods.
This is one of several fan-made ways to change how Baldur’s Gate 3 plays. Other projects have added real-time combat, custom campaigns, companion behaviors, higher-resolution environment textures, and content restored from the game’s Early Access period. The new camera mod takes a more focused approach, changing the way players see exploration and movement without replacing the game’s core systems.
