Final Fantasy 14’s Bastion Turns Two Shields Into Heavy Firepower
The new tank job will be available to level 90 players near Limsa when Evercold arrives in January 2027.
Final Fantasy 14 will add the Bastion as its first new job for the Evercold expansion. Square Enix revealed the class during the European leg of Fan Fest, showing a tank that carries a shield on each arm and can fire both weapons like guns.
The Bastion made its first appearance in an extended version of the Evercold trailer during the Berlin Fan Fest keynote. The footage showed the job mixing close-range attacks with ranged firepower, giving it a very different look from Final Fantasy 14’s existing tanks.
Producer and director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida had previously confirmed that Evercold would add two jobs, with one designed for tank players and the other for DPS fans. He also said both would be new additions to the Final Fantasy series rather than returning concepts from earlier games.
Players who want to begin Evercold as a Bastion will need to reach level 90 and be near Limsa Lominsa when the expansion releases in January 2027. The job’s trailer showed it switching between heavy melee combat and attacks from a distance, though Square Enix has not yet shared a full breakdown of its abilities.
The reveal also lined up with a clue from Yoshida’s Fan Fest shirt. The image featured Rhitahtyn sas Arvina, a character from A Realm Reborn, alongside the caption “guess who’s back.” Fans had connected that tease to the next tank job, with theories ranging from a gunshield fighter to a hammer-based class. Yoshida later said that some fans had already guessed the upcoming jobs during the Anaheim event, without confirming which theories were accurate.
The Bastion is one of the two new jobs planned for Evercold. The second class will be revealed during the Japanese leg of Fan Fest.
