Gaki Turns a Bad Heist Into a Fight for Survival in For Honor

For Honor has returned to the World of Heathmoor with a violent short story centered on Gaki, an Arakure fighter trying to keep her starving gang alive. In Ubisoft’s official story, a simple spying job turns into a battle against rival factions and a legendary monster.

Gaki is sent to the Dokuja stronghold by the House of Kizan. Her mission is to learn why the Dokuja have been receiving large shipments. The Kizan daimyo expects her to sneak in, inspect the supplies, and leave without drawing attention.

That plan falls apart almost immediately. Gaki storms through a storage room, threatens the servants, and searches crate after crate for weapons, armor, or Steel. Instead, she finds supplies for a banquet celebrating an alliance involving the Dokuja and the Khatun. The gathering is tied to a campaign to cleanse the Myre, a move that could wipe out the black markets and criminal work the Arakure need to survive.

The situation becomes even worse when a wounded Kensei stumbles into the room, warning that a monster is inside the stronghold. Gaki has no sympathy for the warrior. A Kensei killed her older brother, Suiichi, during a failed heist years earlier, leaving the Arakure as the only family she has left.

After the Kensei dies, Gaki follows the sound of heavy footsteps into the stronghold. There, she finds a stone statue of Guljin and destroys it in a burst of anger. Two Orochi guards confront her, but their duel is interrupted when terrified guests and servants flood the hall.

The fleeing crowd gives Gaki a chance to hide. It also gives her a clear view of the threat stalking the building: a warrior wearing the red Aka mask.

Gaki Faces the Aka Mask

The masked figure matches the oni from Suiichi’s old stories. The creature is a Sohei warrior carrying seven different weapons, including a tetsubo and a kumade. Legends say the Aka mask was once white before it was stained red by the blood of its victims.

Gaki tries to explain that she is not working with the Dokuja, but the oni does not answer. Instead, it attacks her and sends her crashing through a shoji panel into an archive filled with scrolls and books.

She cannot overpower the warrior, so Gaki changes tactics. After several failed attempts to gain leverage, she throws a burning oil lamp into the archive. The fire spreads through the paper and wooden shelves, creating enough smoke for her to escape. The roof eventually collapses between them, leaving the oni’s red eyes fading behind the flames.

Survival Comes First

Weeks later, Gaki and the Arakure are still struggling. The gang launches a raid on a granary, hoping to steal four bags of rice. Samurai guards arrive sooner than expected, and Honoka is badly wounded during the escape.

With the patrol closing in, Gaki remembers the lesson forced on her by the fight with the oni. Winning is not always about killing the enemy. Sometimes survival depends on using whatever is nearby.

She orders Touri to release the ropes holding suspended pallets of grain. The heavy stacks crash down on the Samurai, giving the Arakure a narrow path out. By sunrise, the survivors are sharing a single bowl of rice in a cold alley.

Honoka jokes that her injuries should have earned her at least two bowls. Touri, meanwhile, considers striking at the Dokuja while the faction is recovering from the night’s destruction. Gaki has a different answer. The next raid will not be about fighting harder. It will be about avoiding capture in the first place.
