Marathon’s new season brings a calmer way to get extracted, for a while

Sponsored Survival is live with Season 2, drops players into Night Marsh Zone alone at first, and stays open through June 9.

Marathon kicks off Season 2 today with Sponsored Survival, a lower-risk PvP-lite experiment that Bungie detailed in its June 2 blog post. The mode is live now and will remain available until June 9.

The action begins in the new Night Marsh Zone, where players start alone and can move through the map without other people immediately on top of them. That early stretch is still not a safe walk in the park, since UESC enemies are in the mix and Bungie says additional enemies will appear later.

Once the match has gone on for a bit, backfilled Rooks enter the map and the tone changes fast. Matches run on an 18-minute timer, and when the final exfil comes around, players can either agree to a temporary truce and leave together or start trading shots before extraction.
