This WW2 mind game is back on Steam after ten years away

Eugen Systems now has RUSE in its official catalog, and the new release bundles every DLC plus Steam Deck support.

RUSE is back on Steam after a ten-year absence, and Eugen Systems says the World War II RTS now sits in its official catalog. The new version also includes every DLC at no extra cost and Steam Deck support.

Back in December 2015, the game vanished from sale on Steam. Ubisoft said the delisting came after licensing rights expired for some of the military items in the game, and Eugen Systems later said the title did not officially belong to it, which left the studio unable to help players who asked about the removal.

That return matters because RUSE built its battles around deception rather than raw speed. Its card system lets players use tools like decryption, espionage, radio silence, camouflage, and fake attacks to mislead an opponent and gain the upper hand.

The game still offers a story campaign, one-off challenge missions, and skirmishes against computer-controlled enemies. Multiplayer supports two to eight players in team matches or free-for-all setups, and players can start with the full toolset, push through three phases of World War II with stronger units, or race to nuclear weapons.

RUSE is available now on Steam for $29.99 / £26.49, via its Steam store page. If you played it years ago, this is a good time to see how it holds up on modern hardware.

R.U.S.E is a one-of-a-kind real-time strategy game that allows players to bluff their enemies to lead their nation to victory, controlling the action using views that range seamlessly from the heart of the battlefield to the full theatre of war. Players will be plunged into the action thanks to the exclusive IRISZOOM engine which offers an intuitive interface that allows for smooth, rapid transitions from a birds-eye view of the entire conflict, down into the heat of the battle and vice versa.

In R.U.S.E, your brain is your ultimate weapon as you fight a war of perception, where your ability to deceive and mislead your enemy determines success. A first in a strategy game, R.U.S.E reinvigorates the genre by using deception to give new-found depth to the gameplay.
