Some PlayStation buyers may qualify for Sony’s $7.8 million refund deal
The class covers certain PlayStation Store purchases made from April 1, 2019 through December 31, 2023, and anyone who wants out has until July 2, 2026 to request exclusion.
A California class action against Sony reached a preliminary $7.8 million settlement after the company was accused of putting too much control around the PlayStation digital store. The law firm behind the case laid out the refund process on April 29, and the first step is simple enough: check whether your purchase history fits the settlement class.
Who can qualify for the refund
To be included, you must have bought at least one digital game through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023. The settlement also requires the title to have had a retail GSV available before April 1, 2019, at least 200 GSV redemptions before that date, and a post-discount price increase of at least fifty cents when the earlier period is compared with the later one.
A GSV is defined as a physical voucher or an electronic code bought from a non-SIE retailer that lets a PlayStation user download a specific game from PSN. You also had to be a U.S. resident at the time of purchase.
If you do not request exclusion from the settlement class by July 2, 2026, you remain in the class.

What the refund could look like
The settlement does not yet spell out a final per-person payout. A rough estimate puts it at around $1 to $3 for each qualifying purchase, and the payment would go to a PSN wallet rather than as cash.
If your purchase history matches the dates and the game list above, the main thing to do now is check whether you want to stay in the class or opt out before the July 2, 2026 deadline.
