A leaked Capcom build hints Resident Evil 0’s remake may add online co-op

Code tied to a project codenamed "Rebecca" reportedly points to an invite-friend co-op feature, though Capcom has not announced the remake.

Capcom has not announced Resident Evil 0 remake yet, but a leak shared on April 16, 2026 suggested the project may include online co-op. The finding ties to code labeled for an “Invite Friend for Co-op” feature inside a project codenamed “Rebecca”, which many fans believe refers to a remake of the 2002 survival-horror game.

The leaked material surfaced in a post on X, where the code reference was presented as evidence that Capcom had at least tested or discussed a co-op system. That does not make the feature official, and plans can still change during development.

The original Resident Evil 0 already centered on two protagonists, Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, and let players switch between them as they worked through puzzles and hazards. In the remake context, that setup could fit an online partner system more naturally than split-screen, since the pair often operate in separate parts of the game.

That said, co-op would also change the tone of the game. Part of Resident Evil has always been isolation, and a second player can soften that feeling fast. If Capcom does follow through, the studio would need to keep the horror intact while still giving two players a reason to stick together.

If Capcom does bring Resident Evil 0 back, co-op could be the biggest wrinkle in the whole project. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
