Nikita Buyanov says Tarkov isn’t going anywhere, even with a new sci-fi shooter in the works
The Battlestate Games head said Fragmentary Order comes from a separate studio he created and that he is still working on Escape from Tarkov.

There was some confusion after Fragmentary Order, a new hardcore sci-fi shooter, surfaced online, mainly because Escape from Tarkov creator Nikita Buyanov is involved. Buyanov has now tried to clear that up, saying the new project is being built by a separate company he created and that Tarkov remains part of his day-to-day work.
In a post on X at this status update, Buyanov wrote that Fragmentary Order is being developed by a separate team made up of people from around the world. He added, “Escape from Tarkov is my life,” and said he is still working on it with his Battlestate Games team, finishing with, “Tarkov for life.”
I always dreamed to make proper hard sci-fi.
It been around my head for years – to bring life to new universe with predicting-the-future approach. And, of course, add something new to the genre as I did with Tarkov.
Now my life has become twice as difficult. I decided to rush in… https://t.co/7MXVOiJAd0— Nikita Buyanov (@nikgeneburn) April 13, 2026
That answer matters because Buyanov had already said Fragmentary Order is not tied to Battlestate Games or Tarkov, even though it shares some surface similarities with his first major shooter. The new project is something he says he has wanted to make for years, calling it a proper hard sci-fi idea built around a future-facing setting and new universe.
He also said the move came from a sense that he did not want to wait too long before trying something different. In his words, his life has become “twice as difficult,” but the new shooter is a separate venture rather than a sign that Tarkov is being left behind.
One question that still hangs over Fragmentary Order is whether it will actually be an extraction shooter. After a fan asked about that on X, Buyanov replied, “Why do you think it will be [an] extraction shooter?” So for now, the genre details are still open.
why do you think it will be extraction shooter?
