Bethesda says it’s working on Starfield’s PS5 crash problem and wants a fix out this week

Bethesda has confirmed it is aware of the crashing problems affecting some Starfield players on PS5 and says it is aiming to release a hotfix this week.

In a statement posted on Bethesda Game Studios’ official X account, the studio said it had narrowed the issue down to a small number of causes after players spent the weekend reporting repeated crashes across Sony’s consoles. Bethesda did not give a detailed breakdown of the problem, but it did say the fix is being worked on now.

The timing matters here because the announcement is landing just days after Bethesda outlined Starfield’s PS5 features ahead of launch. Instead of settling in after release, the game has been dealing with crash reports from both PS5 and PS5 Pro owners, with some players also saying they received refunds after contacting PlayStation support.

Starfield’s PS5 launch has worked for some players, but the number of complaints has been hard to ignore. Bethesda now says it has identified enough of the causes to move toward a hotfix, and the studio is aiming to get that update out by the end of the week.
