A Rust 2 Steam page showed up, and Facepunch is already having fun with the confusion
An incomplete Steam listing for Rust 2 surfaced alongside a SteamDB warning, then Facepunch COO Alistair McFarlane poured fuel on the mystery with a cheeky Reddit reply.

Rust has been around in full release on Steam for eight years, and its early access run stretches back to 2013. That long gap has now fed fresh chatter around a possible sequel after a Steam page for Rust 2 surfaced online.
The listing pointed players to an incomplete page on Steam, where the text simply asks, “RUST 2 IS REAL?!” The same app is also visible on SteamDB, which currently flags it as suspicious and warns that it may be malicious or impersonating another product.
The post that kicked this off appeared on Reddit in the r/playrust subreddit, and the account behind it was created just minutes before the message went up. A little after that, Facepunch COO Alistair McFarlane replied in the thread with a blunt, one-line message: “You saw nothing.”

McFarlane later leaned into the confusion again, writing, “I visit the subreddit a lot, and I sometimes see shit posts and comments that cause confusion. Now you’re all questioning yourselves, is this real? Maybe?”
For now, Facepunch has not confirmed whether this Steam page is a real sequel listing or just a prank with extra steps. If you have a theory of your own, share your thoughts in the comments. You can also keep up with us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
